Social responsibility projects
Select is committed to achieving the ‘triple bottom line’ in its operations and actively participate in the upliftment of communities in which it operates. Select’s operations, where possible, provide generously to local charities and sponsorships. Below are some of the recent projects we have participated in:
2017 – Select joins the fund raising charity event organized by Philani Maswati, Eswatini
Philani Maswati is a Eswatini charity organization whose main goal is to provide a comfortable life to the aged, who generally can no longer provide some of life’s basics for themselves. In a bold move to raise an ambitious E600, 000 in a one-day event, the organization came up with the idea of aiming to beat a Guinness World Record, and chose the “Biggest Braai” as such an event.
As a “practice run” to this attempt, an event was held on 22nd July, at which Select was represented by 7 teams of 4 people per team. Including the participation from Select, a total of 2,500 participants were officially registered. Over 400,000 was raised from participation fees alone, with more money raised from raffle ticket sales and pledges from various individuals and businesses. The objective is to use the proceeds for an outreach project where the organization will provide food hampers to 3,500 elderly beneficiaries in one of the most primitive rural areas in the country. In addition, some funds will be used to provide training for 67 local women from this community on crocheting skills, as well as polish and soap-making to assist them become self-sustaining with regards to their basic needs.
Team Select is extremely proud to have participated in this first of its kind event, and in the process making our small contribution to a worthy cause.

2015 – Select sponsors the Little Feet Foundation Fun Walk in Lesotho
On 27 September 2015, Select sponsored “The Little Feet Foundation Fun Walk” in Maseru, Lesotho. Little Feet Foundation is a non-profit organization that has recently established its presence in Lesotho, and whose primary aim is to provide free psychological support services to the underprivileged children of Lesotho.
The companies, families, friends, schools and individuals walked for 6 or 11 km to raise much needed funds for this noble cause. Select sponsored the DJ, photographer and 3 water points along the route of the fun walk. 7 of the Select’s staff members also participated in the 11 km walk. The first runners crossed the finish line in a mere 27 minutes. Although Select’s team did not win any medals, they managed to cross the finish line and came 4th in the walk. It was a great experience for Select to have participated in this kind of social responsibility project. Select will keep participating in similar events in the future.
2015 – Select makes donations for the flood relief in Malawi
In the first two months of 2015, Malawi was devastated by floods. The Southern Region of Malawi was the most affected. Over 900,000 people were displaced and over 170 died from the floods. The government of Malawi through the Department of Disaster Preparedness took a leading role in soliciting donations in cash and kind for the flood victims. The appeal was made to both local and international organizations including various donors.
The department informed Select that over 900,000 people who had been affected by disasters needed various forms of help. Select Financial Services as a corporate citizen responded to the appeal by making a donation of 78 bags of maize flour (20 kgs each) and 50 blankets to the government of Malawi through the Department of Disaster Management. The Select team is extremely proud to have contributed in the noble cause.
